The elementary and middle school at Chrysalis (South Campus) is a very diverse environment because we create a program that fits the academic needs of each and every student and their family. Since we design a schedule that is unique for all of our students, we have the ability to work with a variety of academic and social abilities.
Most students attend 2 or 3 days a week and take a combination of group classes and individual appointments. The length of each student's day varies based on his or her schedule. The other days should be used to complete assignments, spend time with family, and participate in extracurricular activities. We feel that these additional days give our students both the time and energy to discover and enjoy their childhoods. This is a vital step in becoming a well-rounded and well-adjusted young adult with many interests.
Individual Appointments are an integral part of a Chrysalis student's day. Each student is assigned a consulting teacher with whom they meet weekly. Their consulting teacher works one on one with them on individual assignments as well as helps them to create an appropriate schedule based on their academic and social needs. In addition to consulting appointments, students with busy or restricted schedules or those with a behavior challenge can opt to participate in all individual classes with group classes as an opportunity when the Chrysalis staff and consulting teacher feel it benefits their education.
Group Classes at the elementary and middle school level are small (generally 8-12 students). These classes are very hands on in nature and designed to provide a variety of experiences based on the interests and needs of the group. All group classes are multi-aged, based on students' personalities, social maturity, and abilities.
In the group classes we strive to provide an environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, practice the skills of listening, appreciate diversity of opinion, and develop empathy and compassion. Some examples of our group class offerings are Humanities, Science, Computer Desktop Applications, Art, and Drama.
